The 2014 Australian Long-Term Unemployment Conference held at the Gold Coast this week addressed issues for those most at risk of long-term unemployment and social exclusion.

TRAINING. SUPPORT. EMPLOYMENT.

Those most at risk include youth, Indigenous, regional, disabled and mature aged unemployed. Regrettably these groups continue to have lower employment participation rates and are hampered by poverty and disadvantage.

As Conference Youth Session Chair BoysTown CEO Tracy Adams was called on to lead discussions on the causes and programs needed to provide opportunities for those most at risk of social exclusion.

Like many attending this conference, we know that it is possible to change the fate of those facing barriers to employment but we also know there is no quick fix. Time, patience and individualised attention are critical parts of any solution. Tracy Adams, BoysTown CEO

These are the elements that work very well in BoysTown programs. For example, the BoysTown Employment Enterprises program provides paid employment to young people in a supported environment to prepare them for the transition to the mainstream workforce.
