Kids Helpline @ School links classrooms with counsellors

With the ongoing support of Optus, Kids Helpline @ School is improving the mental health and wellbeing of primary school children across Australia.

AWARENESS. EDUCATION. RESILIENCE.

Kids Helpline @ School delivers a free early intervention program that allows schools to invite a Kids Helpline counsellor into their classroom via a video or phone link.

Dandenong Primary School in Victoria is great example of the Kids Helpline @ School program at work. At this school alone there have been eight separate sessions with more than 250 students taking part in sessions on Friendship, Coping with Change @ School and Bullying.

The kids really like using Skype as they think it is ‘cool’. One of the sessions led to two pupils approaching me afterwards to speak about their own bullying experiences and seek help, which is invaluable! Kelly Finch, Dandenong Primary School wellbeing officer

Teachers can specify the topic that they’d like their class to discuss or choose from previously developed sessions created in response to the most common issues children look at on the Kids Helpline website.

Kids Helpline @ School is one of the many ways Kids Helpline is connecting with children.
