Alcohol and Other Drug Program

Last year, BoysTown‘s Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Program supported more than 400 young people in South East Queensland.

COUNSELLING. HELP. SUPPORT.

Gerhard Aubort, BoysTown Alcohol and Other Drug Counsellor, has been working with a number of young people who have significantly decreased their use of cannabis and/or alcohol.

“A high proportion of the AOD Counsellors' work is via outreach as not all young people want to come to an office setting.

"The sorts of things discussed in sessions include managing cravings, identifying the tricks the mind can play when you are trying to reduce or give up a habit. I work to normalise the situation for young people when relapse occurs as it is common that they give themselves a hard time for ‘failing’. I encourage clients to start again and to accept that this is all part of the process of change."

I have seen that becoming a parent, wanting to get a job, having a partner who wants to make a change in their use, or getting into strife as a result of alcohol and drug use as being some of the catalysts that motivate young people to want to change. Gerhard Aubort

The BoysTown AOD Service is funded by Queensland Health and offers services in the Logan, Redlands, Inala, Ipswich and Goodna areas to young people aged 12-24 years.
