MP launches new mental health service

By: yourtown 09 May 2014 Young People Services

Today Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth MP launched BoysTown’s new Family Mental Health Support Service called Starfish at our Deception Bay facility. Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Julie Greer and many other community representatives and BoysTown supporters were also in attendance.

EARLY INTERVENTION & PREVENTION

The Starfish program will provide early intervention and intensive support to vulnerable children and young people affected by mental illness and their families in the Moreton Bay region.

Research shows that that in each year, approximately one in every five Australians will experience some form of mental illness.

Our staff will work with children, young people and families to identify risk factors or issues which may lead to poor mental health and provide practical assistance, home based support and referrals to other services.

The program also involves being in the community and offering mental health education, information workshops and community development activities.

This is one of the many counselling and support services we provide for children, young people and families.

I want to thank BoysTown for everything you are doing. BoysTown does wonderful things for our community. Luke Howarth MP
