Empowering young parents

Parenting is hard. Becoming a parent while you’re very young and have limited life skills is even harder, with educational, financial, social, physical, and emotional costs.

HELP. SUPPORT. COUNSELLING.

Our young parents programs are centres for personal development and empowerment for young Mums and Dads and their children. We support them to reach their full potential.

Young parents like Mandy.*

“I got kicked out of home while I was pregnant and while I was doing TAFE. When I found out that my partner cheated on me with one of my friends while I was pregnant that really sent me down. You just feel stuck, you look after the child, you clean the house and then the baby is awake again and then you feed them again. There is literally no time left for you. Everything felt like it was really difficult. I felt like I was doing everything on my own and no one loved me enough. No one cared.

"I wanted to be a good role model for my kids and I wanted to feel proud of myself because no one ever showed me that. Coming to BoysTown was very positive. They give you a lot of praise and the praise they give helps boost your confidence. I actually read of lot books and they were inspirational about women rising up and becoming what they want to be and that encouraged me."

BoysTown have helped me to come out of isolation. Mandy.

BoysTown’s Young Parents Support programs helped 104 parents and 119 children in Queensland and South Australia last year. We will continue to encourage, value, respect and celebrate young parents and their families.
