Mental health service extends reach

By: yourtown 09 Jun 2015 BoysTown, Young People Services

BoysTown’s Starfish Family Mental Health Support Service has extended its reach into the Logan region of Brisbane.

EARLY INTERVENTION & PREVENTION

Our Starfish program provides early intervention and intensive support to vulnerable children and young people affected by mental illness and their families in the Moreton Bay region and we are now helping even more vulnerable families by offering services in Springwood, Kingston and Browns Plains.

Research shows that that in each year, approximately one in every five Australians will experience some form of mental illness.

Our staff works with children, young people and families to identify risk factors or issues which may lead to poor mental health and provide practical assistance, home based support and referrals to other services.

The program also involves being in the community and offering mental health education, information workshops and community development activities.

We're aware that the high performance standard of our Moreton Bay Starfish program has been recognised. Congratulations to all our staff involved in the program. Wendy Protheroe, Counselling Services General Manager.

This is one of the many counselling and support services delivered by our staff with compassion, consideration, empathy and genuine care.
