yourtown's Domestic and Family Violence Refuge

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly!”

One in four children is exposed to domestic and family violence.

Each year yourtown's Domestic and Family Violence Refuge provides secure short-term accommodation and intensive support for around 70 families escaping violence in the home.

Families stay within the Refuge for up to 12 weeks. We provide a place of physical and emotional safety while addressing all the issues experienced by the families.

Refuge workers support families to overcome trauma and encourage them to develop skills and confidence to regain control of their lives. They are provided with case management, specialised counselling, child therapy, training in life skills, and links to health, legal and specialist services.

They also receive support to move into safe and affordable accommodation.

Last year, children staying at the Refuge created a beautiful picture filled with paper butterflies representing families supported that year. In the corner was the quote:

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly!”

Just when families may feel like their world is over, our Refuge can give them hope of a life without violence.

Please donate now and give hope to families affected by domestic and family violence.
