Carly was just 17 when she found out she was pregnant with baby Kasey. She didn’t want to repeat her own devastating childhood experience of being taken from her mother. But she had no home, no support and no family to fall back on.

"Being taken from my mother at the age of nine changed my life forever. The thought that the same thing might happen to my own baby because I had no money or family to help me look after her... it was horrible," Carly told us.

Carly will never forget the joy she felt upon arrival at our San Miguel Family Centre, which provides housing and expert support for young families trapped by poverty and homelessness.

"It was the best day of my life," she said.
