Creating a generational home

Stripped back to bare bones and rebuilt, our Tallebudgera Valley Christmas Prize Home was transformed through months of renovations to encapsulate the perfect family estate.

The vision was to create an Australian contemporary country oasis ready in time for Christmas, and with the leadership of award-winning interior designer Darren Palmer, this was made possible.

Reno race to Christmas

Less than 5 months ago the Tallebudgera Valley home was unrecognisable.
To create the breathtaking family retreat, Darren needed to transform the layout of the property to create a streamlined and open plan design.
The potential to create our biggest prize ever was not an easy feat, but Darren knew this classic Queenslander country estate was the perfect starting point.
A renovation the size of this would typically take almost a year, but with Christmas quickly approaching the team fast-tracked the process to deliver a fully finished home in just 4 and a half months.

"There's so much of my heart and time in this home I hope it gives a whole heap of joy to whoever wins it, and it becomes a special, generational home."

Darren said when asked about what the Christmas Prize Home means to him. The interior designer, most famously known for his role on The Block, coupled with the labour of up to 60 tradespeople, resulted in the fast-tracked renovations that saw the country estate transform.

Supporters in awe

The mammoth effort hasn’t gone unnoticed by supporters when they visited the Christmas Prize Home during open-for-inspection.
“It is an absolutely superb home and I just love it,” the supporters said.
“The colour scheme is beautiful, and the amount of work is just incredible!”
Darren’s favourite room of the home is the spectacular ‘Great Room’, with high proportions, a skylight, grand fireplace, and plenty of lounge seating - the space is perfect for entertaining. “It’s the perfect family room and I couldn’t love it more,” Darren said.

Every little touch counts

With family at the heart of the vision, the expansive space is ideal for entertaining with an effortless flow from living to kitchen, to the outdoor area- complete with a wraparound deck, pool, and cubby house.
The finer details that make the home special weren’t overlooked by Darren either.

Like the positioning of the master bedroom’s bath so the lucky winner can relax to the sounds of the Tallebudgera Creek running in the background, to the inclusion of a separate Butler’s Pantry.
“I wanted each room to have an outlook to the trees, the pool or just to provide privacy and tranquillity,” Darren said.

Empowering young people

yourtown’s Social Enterprise team played a role in the transformation of the home, playing a major part in the landscaping, kitchen renovation and cubby house build.

The social enterprise team provides valuable employment opportunities for young people to gain hands-on experience. The role they played in building the cubby house at the Tallebudgera Valley property will make lasting memories for generations to come.
